By : praval

Today we have an Indian startup which cares about the waste management. Yes, Daily Dump is a brand, service and a set of products from Playnspeak. A startup based out of Bangalore.

dailydump I got a chance to interview Poonam Bir Kasturi, the founder of Daily Dump.  She’s a proud lady running an eco-friendly startup. When asked for her prime intentions, she was quick at saying,

“Our prime focus is on changing people’s behavior towards waste.”

We have an excerpt of the interview here;

What’s the source of inspiration for such a different startup? What is your background? What is the idea behind Daily Dump?

The first source of inspiration is the problem of waste that stares you in the face in every part of the city. I am trained as an Industrial Designer from NID 1986. The idea is to empower everyone to reduce the waste that reaches the streets.

Does this startup deals biologically or is it as simple as the name ‘Daily dump’ appeals to the customer? How user friendly is it?

The product uses a natural process of aerobic decomposition to achieve its objective of creating compost at home. It requires some amount of handling and is relatively user-friendly.

Daily Dump appears to be an ‘environmentally’ evoking name. If given a chance to rename it, what would it be?

No rename for us. Thank you!

How do you acquaint the general public about your product? Any new advertising methods being sorted out?

Right now it’s only word-of-mouth publicity.

What is your prime focus?

Our prime focus is on changing people’s behavior towards waste.

Considering a country like India, how difficult it is to implement the concept you have at Daily Dump?

It is not difficult; one just has to keep at it.

Are there any further talks about landing your feet in the sub-urban areas of India? As ‘composting’: the prime project of Daily Dump has its aboriginal connections in the suburbs.

Our clone model will ensure full support to anyone who is brave enough in other parts of the country to begin this as a enterprise.

What are the Critical Success Factors of your Business? What made it Bootstrap?

The critical factors are the design and how it fits into current ways of doing and thinking. We have managed to elevate waste to a cool thing – no mean task.

Tell us about your experiences with Daily Dump?

It has been a very fulfilling journey and a lot of people have helped in so many ways.

What was the most memorable day for you at Daily Dump?

When a ten year old told his mother that she had to buy a composter.

What’s new this ending year? Any surprises the customers should await for?

Yes, our new range of composters that can be retrofitted in flats.
