The basic motto of a startup that operates in the Internet space is to spread a word about its product. It a common myth that a startup would get its commerce and trade resulting into profits from the online space but to get the word spread, there is no better way than to have a team which looks into the operations of the company in the offline space. It is a very challenging parameter to satisfy for a company and there are not many companies that have implemented it successfully.

The basic necessity that a startup needs are orders to be placed from customers which will eventually turn into sales and for this to happen the success of both online and offline operations are henceforth pretty significant. It is pure logic now to go after the real world, but there are some important considerations for a startup before venturing into the offline space.

If you’ve already thought of launching an offline drive, watch out for these aspects:

  1. Recognize the customer – Have an in-depth understanding of the customer as well as his requirements. There will always be a trade-off between the customer’s financial capability and the company’s value proposition attached to the offer. It is thus the company’s justification to decide on either one of them as both cannot be achieved by just one order.
  2. Ability to offer solution – Never ever try to look for a combination of a hard problem and an easy solution or vice versa. Instead always try to offer solution to a problem which you can justify within the resources available at your disposal. Another important aspect that no startup should compromise is on the learning potential behind a solution to a problem. No matter how small or big the problem is, the learning never goes in waste.
  3. Efficiency of Solution – As a startup owner the efficiency of your service is the only criterion that will bring repeat purchases from your website. This ability to offer efficient service can often help in bringing new customers who might turn out to be profitable than the current ones. This has an indirect effect on the increase of the Return on Investment of a firm. More is the ROI, more is its efficiency.
  4. Recruitment of a team – For the spreading of wings of an online startup, the requirement of a proper team and the ability of the team to perform specific required functions becomes more value for the company. Size of the team is as important as the quality as it is the size of the team which most of the times have an effect on the performance.
  5. Business Model – The success of the online startup depends on the service being offered and the performance of the team in the offline space. An online startup like Make my trip is pretty successful. For a company to increase its profit by five times, it is not necessary that the company’s team needs to be increased with the same magnitude. Thus, the relevance to a business model and its real time applications also has a part to play.

The decision of an online startup to spread its wings into an offline space is justified if all the above parameters are justified by their strategic decisions and are aptly supported by the performance of the operations team.
